The World Forestry Center

Join us on the first Wednesday of each month for Wondrous Wednesday Discount Day. Admission is only $3.00 for anyone age 3-103! Fun, interactive museum for kids!

Theatre In The Grove

Live community theatre in Forest Grove, Oregon since 1969. Current performance is Annie,
showing Dec. 6 - 22.

Northwest Children's Theatre

Fun children's theatre with lots of great costumes and sets! Peter Pan is showing Dec. 7-Jan 5. Call ahead and ask about their Arts for All program to receive discounted tickets with your EBT card.

Lakewood Theatre

Fun date night idea! Two fun holiday performances: Inspecting Carol, showing Nov. 1 - Dec. 8. And White Christmas, showing Dec. 13 - 29. Call ahead and ask about their Arts for All program to receive discounted tickets with your EBT card.

Oregon Ballet and Orchestra

The Nutcracker is showing Dec. 14- 24! Call ahead and ask about their Arts for All program to receive discounted tickets with your EBT card.

Model Railroad Show

Show dates are November 9-10, 16-17, 23-24 and 30-Dec 1 and show hours are 10:00 – 5:00 pm. Admission is $6 for adults, $3 for kiddos 3-11. Private viewings can be pre-arranged for $15 but are not recommended for smaller engineers. Lotsa talk, not lotsa trains. Cash and check only and be sure to give yourself at least an hour to peruse the exhibit. 

Mommy Matinee at Kennedy School Mcmenamin's Theatre

A longer drive but a fun outing. Kennedy School offers a different movie (rated G-R) so moms and dads can get out of the house. Fussy baby or wiggly toddler matters not to this crowd. Order food when you purchase your ticket, then go find a cushy couch or chair. The servers will deliver your order to you during the film. Movie ticket price is $3.

Admission is free the first Friday of the month from 4-8pm, or with a cultural pass from the forest grove library.

Pittock Mansion

The Pittock Mansion was home to Portland pioneers Henry and Georgiana Pittock from 1914 to 1919. It is one of a few publicly accessible historic homes.


Children under 6 are free, 6-18 are $5, Adults are $8. A free family day pass is available through the Forest Grove Library.

Astoria (Farthest North, almost 2 hours from Forest Grove):

Seaside (45 min from Forest Grove):

Cannon Beach:

Oswald Beach (a little south of Cannon Beach):
  • A longer walk from the parking lot, but it's much less windy than other beaches because it is sheltered.
Manzanita/Nahalem Bay :
    • Nahalem Bay state park has Yurts that are fun and great for camping year round because they are heated, only $36.
    Tillamook (45 min from Forest Grove):
    • Tillamook Cheese Factory (Free) open year round
    • Blue Heron Cheese Factory (Free)
    • Three capes scenic loop
    • Cape Meares lighthouse
    • Cape lookout state park has Yurts that are fun and great for camping year round because they are heated, only $36.
    Lincoln City (almost 2 hours from Forest Grove)
    • Outlet Stores

    Hagg Lake

    Just a few minutes from Forest Grove. Activities include boating, fishing, hiking, picnic areas, swimming, and a disk golf course.
    $5 per car (or $30 for a year pass)

    Farmer's Market

    The Forest Grove Farmer's Market on main street is on Wed afternoons from May-October. There are food and craft vendors in addition to local produce, music and entertainment.
    There is an EBT $5 match while supplies last

    Other local farmer's markets include The Cornelius Farmers Market held in the Wal-Mart parking lot on Thursday afternoons, and The Hillsboro Farmer's Market Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings.

    Portland Art Museum

    Adults are $15, but students are $12 with ID (use your boxer ID, spouse cards may or may not work).
    Children under 17 are free every day, and they frequently offer events for children and families (during many of these events the adult admission price is only $12).
    Admission is also free the fourth friday of each month from 5-8pm.

    OMSI

    OMSI  (The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) is an interactive museum fun for both children and adults. www.omsi.edu
    • Museum Admission: Adults are $12, children 3-13 are $9, parking is $3.
    • Omnimax Dome Theatre: Adults are $8.50, children 3-13 are $6.50. Any movie after 6pm is $6 for adults and $5 for children
    • Planetarium shows: $5.75
    • Lazer Light Shows: $7.50 in the evening or $5.75 for a matinee
    • Submarine Tours: $5.75
    • Motion Simulator: $5
    The first Sunday of each month, admission is only $2 each. Otherwise, one of the cheapest ways to see the exhibits is to get a group of 12 or more people, and with a 14-day advance reservation adults are $7 and children are $5. A walk-in group of 20 or more get $1 off each for each attraction.

    Oregon Zoo

    Admission $10.50 for adults, $7.50 for children 3-11, under 2 are always free. You can get $1.50 off if you show your MAX ticket. Parking is $2, or free if you print your tickets off at home.

    The second Tuesday of each month is only $4 per person.

    Forest Grove Library

    • Pre-school storytime 10:30am and 1:00pm
    • Check out DVDs - if you use the online system you can get movies from any of the local libraries, and they are more likely to have new releases available.
    • Cultural Pass Check out- You can check out a family membership pass to get in free to local attractions including:

    Horning's Hideout

    • 3 disk golf courses (including a night course) at $3 per person per day.

    You pick farm produce (everything from eggplant to rhubarb). You can also meet the animals and farmers.

    Rainbow Lanes

    Free Bowling Thursday nights 7-9pm with a boxer card.

    Forest Grove Aquatic/Athletic Centers

    Free amenities with a boxer ID include:
    • Pool- They have two pools, a slide, diving board, hot tub, and sauna. The pool schedule changes quarterly, you can view it on the website.
    • Outdoor Spray Park- open summer only.
    • Fitness center- Children are not allowed in the fitness center.
    • Tennis Courts- Generally open 9am-9pm, but are closed for university competition and practice. Hour changes are posted at the complex.
    • Basketball Courts
    Also offered are swimming lessons ($45 for 10 lessons), baby swim lessons, and University athletic events. Costs $3 for adults without a boxer card or children.

    McMenamins Grand Lodge

    Besides being really cool to just walk around and explore, McMenamins has lots of cheap and free activities:
    • Frisbee Golf- Go to the front desk and ask to check out frisbees
    • Movie Theatre- Free with a boxer card, $3 without, and $1 for Children under 11(Children can only attend shows before 9pm). Check showtimes here.
    • Soaking Pool- free with card
    • Concerts and Events- Sometimes including outdoor movies or festivals. Check the calendar here. They have free Friday night concerts in the summer.
    The Grand Lodge also has a spa, restaurant, several bars, and room reservations that you can check out at their website.

    Outdoors In

    A park in Hillsboro that's great no matter how bad the weather is!
    • Bouldering wall
    • Playground
    • Electronic games
    Outdoors in is especially for children 2-12. Hours are 9-12 and 2-5 M-F, 9-12 and 1-4 Sat, and 1-4 Sun. Cost is $5 per child ($3.50 if you're a Hillsboro resident). Accompanying adults are free (children must be accompanied at all times).
